Overview
Embalm and eternalize are two of Amonkhet's most distinctive mechanics. Both let creatures return from the graveyard as token copies, and Eternal Might is built to exploit this recursion. Temmet, Naktamun's Will leads the embalmed warriors of Amonkhet into the race circuit of Aetherdrift, their eternal forms persistent and difficult to permanently remove.
The strategy has natural resilience: once a creature has been embalmed or eternalized, opponents cannot interact with its graveyard copy again. Token copies also deny reanimation-hate value, since they cannot themselves be reanimated. Anointed Procession doubles every token produced by the mechanic, turning a single embalm activation into two tokens and a single eternalize into two enormous threats.
Key Cards
These four cards represent the strategic core of the deck and are the most important pieces to protect and set up.
Playing the Deck
The early game is about establishing mana and filling the graveyard with embalm and eternalize targets. Champion of Wits is the ideal early play, drawing cards and discarding embalm creatures to set up future activations. Embalm and eternalize are activated abilities, not cast spells, so they bypass traditional counterspells.
The mid game focuses on activating embalm and eternalize at key moments. White removal and blue countermagic protect the pieces while the graveyard builds. Anointed Procession resolving before the major activations is the most important sequencing decision in the deck. With the enchantment in play, Angel of Sanctions, Vizier of Many Faces, and other key embalm creatures generate double the tokens.
The late game is about flooding the board with tokens faster than opponents can answer them. Eternalize threats are formidable on their own, and doubling them becomes overwhelming. board-wide effects and Temmet's buffing ability ensure that even a modest token army can close games quickly when given a clear path.
Strengths and Weaknesses
Strengths: Recursive threats that return from the graveyard as tokens, bypassing spot removal repeatedly. Anointed Procession doubles every embalm and eternalize activation, creating overwhelming token counts with a single card. Strong resilience: token copies cannot be reanimated themselves, which denies graveyard-hate strategies additional value when targeting the token side.
Weaknesses: Token strategies lose hard to Humility or Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite, which shrink or destroy the entire token army in a single card. The embalm and eternalize package requires specific creatures to be in the graveyard, making the deck slow to assemble. Esper can be inconsistent on a precon budget when trying to hit all three colours reliably in the early turns.
